2018 - Puy Du Fou, France

We promised our daughter, Nicci, that we would take her to Puy Du Fou in the Vendee, France as a treat for
  her 50th birthday.
We only had 6 days to make the return trip and so it was a rush to get there and a rush to get back. Not the
sort of touring that we like to do!
Our building work was underway and we could not leave the house for too long. Also Nicci and her husband,
John, are still working hard to pay their taxes to keep our pensions in good order!
We crossed the Channel via the Newhaven-Dieppe ferry which was a comfortable journey both ways.
After crossing to Dieppe we made our way through Normandy to stop overnight on the aire at Honfleur. It is
always busy on this aire, as Honfleur is such a popular town to visit.

The following day we set off early and arrived at the aire at Puy Du Fou. The aire here is very large and will
hold over 100 motorhomes. It is fairly quiet during the week and we found plenty of spaces to choose from
but fills up quickly on a Friday afternoon.
We planned a two day visit. On Thursday we would visit the park and in the evening watch the fantastic
Orgues Du Feu, on Friday a second park visit and then watch the spectacular night show Ciniescenie.

The park and the evening shows are spectacular and we strongly recommend a visit. Make sure you are there
for the Friday and Saturday night show. It is an extra charge and it is well worth spending a little extra and
  reserving premium seats.
Below are some snaps from our visit. That is Nicci with the viking helmet! As usual, click to enlarge.

The Ciniescenie evening show is breathtaking, you will not see anything so awe inspiring. The photo at the
bottom right shows just some of the huge cast which includes horses, goats, sheep. The event is staged in
front of a large lake and in fron of the old chateau (which you can see in the background. After the show the
crowd is simply speechless. Nicci’s comment was “I cannot believe what I have just seen!”
If you are not a motorhome owner then there are various hotels outside the park which offer very reasonably
priced inclusive packages. Flights are to Poitiers.
Go and see for yourself - you will not be disappointed ! !
On the Saturday we raced back north and stopped over night at Les Andelys campsite. This is one of our
preferred stop overs which we have used several times. It is a pretty town on the banks of the Seine. Good
sized pitches and a well appointed site. Plus, they accept ACSI!

After a night stop and an opportunity for a good shower we were on our way again early to Dieppe and
  the ferry home.
It was a flying visit but so memorable. Would we do it again? Yes, but take our time getting there and
  back!
